FOSSILS SPECIMEN: TRILOBITES

Fossils are defined as any evidence of prehistoric life. There are two types of fossils: Body Fossils include remains of skeletal bones, shell, carapace, test and teeth. Trace Fossils are clues the organism existed such as foot prints, tracks, burrows and coprolites (fossil dung).

Arthropoda meaning “jointed foot” are classified as within the Domain: Eukarya, Kingdom: Animalia and Phylum: Arthropoda. This group includes ants, bees, butterflies, dragonflies, millipedes scorpions, spiders, crabs, lobsters, and the long extinct trilobites. The name Trilobites literally mean “three lobed rock” in reference to the prominant axial lobes or sections held by all members of the group.
