Yesterday, when a group of kids came into my class Yesterday, when a group of kids came into my classroom one boy said "wow, whoever took the time to draw this has to be mentally unstable" to his friend.

After I formally introduced myself as an Earth Science teacher he then put his hand up and said "do not take this the wrong way, (always a good sign) but before I met you I would have believed a mentally unstable person made this drawing". I assume he did not know I heard him in the beginning. Then he said "but you are really cool".

And for the first time in my life, I did not know what to say... he was not being a class clown-this was genuine awe from a human child.

This little Oreodont (Miniochoerus gracilis) lived This little Oreodont (Miniochoerus gracilis) lived during the early Oligocene in what is now the White River Badlands. What makes her rarer than most displays are the two pups she will forever carry. One baby's jaw and teeth are partially visible to the left of her femur (upper leg bone). She is what we in the south call "heavily pregnant"!

On this #trilobitetuesday I wanted to share this i On this #trilobitetuesday I wanted to share this image of two trilobites being hunted by a eurypterid, also known as a "sea scorpion". These animals can only be found in ocean deposits from the Paleozoic Era, the time before dinosaurs.

Last week this happened with a home school student Last week this happened with a home school student right before my class:

Girl: Are you the same teacher from last time?
Me: Did you take Landforms?
Girl: Yes.
Me: Did the last teacher wear a lab coat and told bad jokes?
Girl: Yes.
Me: Then that was me.

The parents all laughed, noting that she actually said yes the second time!

I had to sort my Malacology collection to start pr I had to sort my Malacology collection to start properly cataloging it. The flat clear containers are $5.00 scrapbook holders from #dollartree and the white and gray topped shoebox containers are from #walmart for under $1.00 each.

Considering my earth and natural science collections are currently nomadic, I am always on the look out for containers to store and display stuff economically.

During the Thanksgiving break some of my high scho During the Thanksgiving break some of my high school friends (Roy, Robert, your's truly, Jesse, and Eric) came to the museum with their families. They all remembered how exited I was about paleontology-particularly dinosaurs as a kid. Now they are happy to see me going on digs, teaching classes, and doing lectures about dinosaurs as an adult (adult on paper at least)!

And yes, on the third picture I am doing Jeff Goldblum's Ian Malcolm from Jurassic Park.
