Ancient Egyptian Gods

Osiris is the great grandson of Ra, the ancient Egyptian sun god. The Ancient Egyptians believed that the gods ruled over the people as the first Pharaohs, Osiris being one of them. Osiris and his wife Isis ruled over the Nile river valley and taught humanity how to farm and be civilized. It was not until Osiris’ brother Set killed and dismembered his brother’s remains, that Osiris became the god of the underworld.

Unlike in modern Christianity, the ruler of the underworld was not evil in ancient religions. Osiris was present during the judging of souls upon the death of every individual. He is often depicted with mummy wrappings, with his arms crossed over his chest in the form of a pharaoh. He is also often depicted with a blue face being the first god being reborn.
