Jurassic James® Outreach Presentations
Greetings friend, my name is James Edward Washington III (formerly employee of Houston Museum of Natural Science), but you might know me by my trademarked nickname Jurassic James®. My teaching methods help others visually understand difficult scientific concepts. I specialize in lectures, presentations, teaching adult and youth education classes in labs with my personal mineral, rock, seashells, fossils, and artifact replica collections, estimated to be close to 100,000 specimens.

Dinosaurs and Fossils: This presentation brings real fossils from dinosaurs and other prehistoric life directly to your school, club, or scouts meeting. Your students will delve into the exciting field of paleontology, learning about the tools used by paleontologists and the fascinating process of how fossils form. The presentation will be supplemented with scientific replicas, 3D prints, and reconstructed models of dinosaurs, offering a comprehensive and engaging experience.

Introduction to Minerals and Rocks: This presentation defines the difference between a rock and a mineral, exploring their formation and their diverse uses both today and in ancient times. Geology is a highly tactile subject, so your students will have the opportunity to touch and examine specimens throughout the presentation, fostering a hands-on learning environment.

Ancient Egyptians: The Ancient Egyptians are one of the most studied and celebrated cultures in the ancient world. This presentation will teach your students about their rich culture, remarkable architecture, and complex religious beliefs, offering a captivating journey into the past.

Sea Shells: Children are naturally drawn to seashells, making them an excellent gateway to introduce scientific concepts. This presentation will cover the three major mollusk groups: Bivalves (clams), Gastropods (snails), and Cephalopods (squid and octopi). We’ll also explore other cool beach finds such as sand dollars, sea stars, and shark teeth, sparking curiosity about marine life.
Presentation Schedule:

Introduction to the topic, what it is and what careers are associated with it.

Defining and describing each specimen or replica artifact.

Pass the item around with aid of teachers in large groups.

Logistics:

Capacity: Standard classroom maximum of 25 to 30 students per thirty minute presentation depending on program and group needs. Common three hour schedule arrive and set up at 8:30 am, presentations 9:00am, 9:30a, 10:00am, 10:30am, 11:00am, and 11:30am. Depart after 12:00pm.

Auditorium or pod maximum of 30 to 125 students per presentation. Please let me know if you need a different maximum, I can do multiple presentations in the time allotted. Please note the more children in the presentation, the less time for individudal specimen touching for each child.

Presentations normally conducted without a PowerPoint, if a PowerPoint is desired, please let me know beforehand.

Photography: I do not have restrictions on any school, club, or company taking photographs when I visit. Feel free to post on social media. Please refer to me as “Jurassic James®”.

- $450.00 for two hours.
- $600.00 for three hours.
- $50 for any additional hour after three.
- $1,500.00 full day (minimum of eight hours) plus thirty minute break.
